Documentary Filming at the Royal Institution Venue

The Royal Institution is a stunning period venue with versatile Georgian and contemporary spaces.

When we closed our doors in March of 2020 we were determined to explore new opportunities and began expand our filming location offer to corporate, documentary and feature filming opportunities.

Documentary filming location

Over the past year we have been privileged to be the location for some fantastic film projects across the Royal Institution Venue from documentaries on vaccines to interviews for BBC News and Current Affairs.

Back in April of this year we were lucky enough to welcome Professor Brian Cox back to the Royal Institution to film in the Theatre with BBC Science.

This documentary required a large projection space alongside speech to camera. The Theatre was the ideal location with its powerful 4k projector that projects straight onto the wall and atmospheric lighting.

The crew came in for two non-consecutive days of filming and were supported onsite by our lead AV technician who managed the projection and assisted the crew in creating a dramatic atmosphere with the theatre almost in darkness.

Professor Brian Cox’s new series will be coming out Sunday 30th May on BBC Two.

Filming location Mayfair

We have also hosted documentary interviews in the Library, Georgian Room, Writing Room and Conversation Room.

Our book-lined walls and period features make the ideal interview backdrop and our central location in discrete Mayfair is ideal for welcoming VIPs and interviewees.

Furthermore as a science venue we love hosting educational filming projects and supporting the creation of informative content.
