The Writing Room adjoins the Georgian Room and acts as another breakout space for the Library and the Theatre.
This intimate room features floor-to-ceiling windows which flood this historic central London venue with natural daylight. The Writing Room offers a fantastic drinks reception venue ahead of a private dinner in the Georgian Room or provides an ideal meeting room for a corporate away-day.
Adorned with period features and antique books lining the walls, the Writing Room is an inspiring space to entertain your guests and where great minds can meet.
History & Heritage
The Writing Room was originally part of 20 Albemarle Street, which was gifted to the Royal Institution by renowned chemist, Ludwig Mond in 1894.
Legend has it that a speaker for a Royal Institution Evening Discourse once ran away just before the lecture started. It is said that for this reason, since the 1890s, Discourse speakers have been locked in a room 10 minutes before the talk begins, to prevent them from also running away.
Most recently, the Writing Room has played host to our (briefly) imprisoned speakers where they are able to have a last few moments rehearsing their speeches and presentations before finally standing at the front of a crowded Theatre.
